The effect of a program “Family-centered empowerment “ based on Orem model on self-care of brain stroke patients

Introduction:Due to the long-term disabilities following stroke , there is a need to achieve an acceptable level of self-care in these patients. One of the conceptual models of nursing care that can empower patients is Orem self-care model. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the effect of a program “Family-centered empowerment “ based on Orem model on self-care of brain stroke patientsResults: Independent T-test showed that the self care scores before intervention in both intervention and control was not significant, while there was a significant difference between the self care scores in two groups after two weeks after the intervention (p <0/005). Also pair T-test showed that there was a significant difference before and after two weeks after intervention group (p <0/005). Methods: this study, a clinical trial was performed on 64 patients with stroke. Samples were randomly assigned into two groups of intervention based on Orem model on self-care (n=32 subjects) and control n=32 subjects). The demographic questionnaire and the Bartel questionnaire before and2weeks after the intervention in both groups completed.Results:The findings of the study showed that there was no significant difference between the control groups (42.83±12.97) and the intervention (44.08±19.30) before the intervention (p>0.05).2 weeks after the study, the performance of the patients in the experimental group was higher than the control group (p <0.05).Conclusion: The results of the study showed that self-care training based on the Orem’s self-care model can increase the rehabilitation of patients with strock.
